11 Funeral Homes You Should Follow on Social Media

funeral home social media

ASD established our company’s social media pages back in 2011. Since that time, we have had a front row seat observing how funeral home social media has evolved. Every month, I spend a few hours exploring funeral home social media posts (mainly on Facebook) in search of ASD’s Photo of the Month for our email newsletter. It’s a fascinating exercise that has given me quite a bit of insight into the different ways funeral home’s approach social media and the type of content that makes an impact.

In this blog post, I want to highlight some outstanding examples of funeral homes excelling on social media. These funeral homes showcase how to create meaningful events for their communities and effectively use social media to promote those events while demonstrating the strong relationships they’ve built with other local leaders. Each funeral home featured here has a unique approach to offering a behind-the-scenes look at their operations, all while maintaining the utmost respect for the privacy of the families they serve.

Here are 11 Funeral Homes Doing Social Media Right

Linnemannn Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Erlanger, KY

I think the thing that strikes me the most this funeral home’s social media is the incredible number of events they host each year. One thing that really stands out is how the funeral home not only promotes these events on their Facebook page, but also shares photos of their staff participating. Let it be a rule of thumb for your funeral home that if you are going to host or attend events, you should always capture photos. The other component that makes  Linnemann Family Funeral Home’s social media content so great is how they always highlight how much they value the deep relationships they have others in the community.

Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Flemington, NJ

With their signature hashtag, #WrightFamilyCares, the Wright & Ford Family and Cremation Services Facebook page consistently impresses with high-quality, thoughtful posts. We admire how the funeral home highlights real-life examples of helping families create meaningful services. One standout example is the service for a dog trainer, where dogs were invited to participate—a truly heartfelt tribute. The funeral home also shares behind-the-scenes glimpses of what makes their operation exceptional, posts messages of support for other local organizations, and features photos of Funeral Director D.J. Wright actively engaging with and showing love to his community.

Grace Funeral & Cremation Services in Rockford, IL

This is going to sound kind of strange, but when you work at ASD, especially as long as I have, you start to develop a running list of funeral directors you would want to handle arrangements for you or your loved ones if you could pick any funeral director in the country. And for a long time, the funeral director at the top of my list is Kristan McNames at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services. The big reason for this is I’ve been following this funeral home on social media for over a decade, and I’m always amazed by how Kristan reveals the genuine person behind her work. Whether it’s sharing photos of herself experiencing the blooming of the corpse flower, engaging with items in the funeral home showroom, or taking selfies with her kids, she consistently shows that she is the heart and soul of her brand. Just looking at the many comments on posts—you can see how deeply she resonates with her community and how much of herself she pours into her role as a funeral director.

Plainville Funeral Home in Plainville, CT

If you want to see a mortuary that understands the power of video in social media, look no further than Plainville Funeral Home.  There is so much creativity and love that goes into the short, often funny or touching videos the funeral home shares. They aren’t afraid to show the real people behind the funeral home and to use humor to show off how bonded they are with one another. Watching their videos will make you wish you were a part of the team at Plainville Funeral Home. They also do a great job using video to share important messages about funeral planning, mental health, and the nature of grief. The videos are sometimes funny, sometimes inspirational, sometimes educational, but always authentic.

Emerald Hills Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Kennedale, TX

You won’t find a more active funeral home social media account than that of our friends at Emerald Hills Funeral Home. It seems the funeral home and cemetery always has something new and exciting to share with their followers. Whether it’s an event they are hosting, such as a Fall Festival or Law Enforcement Appreciation Breakfast, photos of the beautiful cemetery grounds, or a video of a new columbarium being installed, the funeral home never fails to keep their friends and neighbors informed and engaged. We especially loved their idea of holding a trivia contest so people could guess the exact weight of the new columbarium.

McCafferty Funeral & Cremation in Philadelphia, PA

McCafferty Funeral Home’s approach to social media is very unique. By and large, like most funeral homes, their posts primarily consist of shared obituaries. However, one thing this funeral home does that really stands is out is about once a week, they will share a story about a funeral recently held by their funeral home. Just about every one of these posts could bring a tear to your eye as they truly illuminate why funerals matter and are so important. You truly get the sense from reading these posts that the funeral directors behind the scenes learn something new from every family they serve. We look forward to reading the stories they share and think you would find a lot of inspiration following them as well.

Roupp Funeral Home in Mifflinburg, PA

We love funeral homes that go beyond their traditional role and actively engage with their communities, transforming perceptions of their establishment from a place of sorrow to a welcoming hub where meaningful human connections can flourish. One exceptional example of this is Roupp Funeral Home, whose efforts to foster a sense of community are evident in both their events and their vibrant social media presence. From hosting “Cocoa with Santa” and a Halloween Costume Contest to organizing food drives and weekly “Free Coffee Friday” gatherings, Roupp Funeral Home creates opportunities for connection and joy. Follow their social media for examples of how funeral homes can become much more than places of mourning—they can be hubs of community, care, and shared moments.

Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, MI

Community events don’t happen by chance—they require dedicated and engaged local sponsorship from organizations like funeral homes. We admire funeral homes that are deeply invested in their communities, actively sponsoring and participating in a wide variety of events. Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home exemplifies this commitment. Their social media highlights their support for everything from town concerts and Toys for Tots drives to local theater productions and even providing port-a-potties for trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Their efforts demonstrate the meaningful impact that local businesses can have in fostering strong, vibrant communities.

Macz Funeral Home in Centralia, Sandoval, Patoka and Odin, IL

There are some funeral service families that just seem like they are having more fun than anyone else. The ones that challenge that stale old perception of a funeral director as uptight and tidy by not being afraid to embrace joy. That’s how we feel about Tom and Traci Macz from Macz Funeral Homes. We love seeing their heartwarming social media posts, especially ones that include their adorable sons George and Charles. One thing we really enjoy about their content is how family-focused all of their posts are, showing not just the funeral staff but their entire family getting involved in town festivals, charity events and movie screenings. Macz Funeral Home also has the distinction of creating one of the very best videos we have ever seen on social media: the Funeral Director’s Music Video Challenge.

Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Red Lion, PA

Katharine Wagner-Elfner and her husband, Nathan Elfner, became the new owners of the former Burg Funeral Home in May 2023. While Katharine had previously worked at the funeral home, taking on the role of owner required her to build deeper connections within the community and share her values. She has done an exceptional job leveraging social media to authentically introduce herself and establish a strong presence for Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home. Katherine frequently shares videos in which she speaks directly to her community, addressing everything from updates at the funeral home to debunking common myths about the industry. She provides valuable insight into the reasoning behind the practices of funeral directors and is unafraid to pull back the curtain, offering a behind-the-scenes look at running a funeral home. Katherine also shares heartfelt, personal moments, such as a touching photo of herself with her son, where she explains why she chooses not to shield her children from the realities of funeral service work.

Carr Funeral Home in Whitinsville, MA

Carr Funeral Home is a great example of how a funeral home can make a big impact on social media in a short period of time. While the funeral home was founded back in the 1850s, their presence on Facebook was only established about a year ago. Since that time, they have built a loyal audience mostly by encouraging their community to support important causes. From collecting donation items for victims of Hurricane Helene to encouraging neighbors to donate toys to their toy drive, the directors at Carr Funeral Home do a great job using their social media to inspire generosity in others. Located in a historic building, the directors also regularly share updates on unique restoration projects going on at the funeral home. With lots of engagement on every post, it is obvious their content resonates deeply with the community.
